Chanel - Sheer Positivity
Karl once again proved that there is nothing quite like Chanel. Creating a beach runway with recycled products, we came to the realisation that we need to book a warm holiday ASAP! The entire collection was inspired by creating something that allowed us to dream, to hope, to feel good and be happy which is pretty much what escapism does. And who wouldn’t want to escape with Chanel!? We saw that leggings are back and that beach chic doesn’t need to always consist of a kaftans! Models strutted down barefoot in Chanel’s signature tweed material with oversized blazers over swimwear, matching sets with high leg slits and logo printed clothing. Happy days.
Elie Saab - Bold Confidence
Want to feel glamorous and have all eyes on you? Time to start saving up for Elie Saab’s Spring/Summer ’19 collection. The designer once again creates something that celebrates the woman in her entirety. The refreshing use of deep, rich colours in a Spring/Summer collection was welcomed with an equally bold use of stripes, florals and animal print and lashing of sequins along the way. Only someone with the design confidence of Saab could pull this off. Taking the evening gown and adding an updated twist that makes each dress more unique than the next, the runway was filled with colour and detailing, with that French styling flare of adding neck scarfs to compliment the outfit.
Celine - Talk of The Town
Everyone but everyone is talking about Celine. When Pheobe Philo passed the design crown over to Hedi Slimane who then decided to drop the infamous accent mark over the ‘e' in Celine, heads were turned. Hedi’s collection reflected a lot of his YSL background with not just the mini dress but the ’super’ mini, rock n’roll leather and his so on trend acknowledgement of ‘genderless’ fashion with his menswear that will now be available for women as well. Although different from the vibe Pheobe had left, we remain excited to see how the brand develops and in turn how the Celine fanbase will connect or even re-connect with this change. Either way Hedi’s showed us he is here with a (big) bang and the fashion press received the collection a welcome greater than the Eiffel Tower.
Altuzzura - Pretty Perfect
Each season Altuzzura makes our heart skip a beat. With clothing that is the perfect combination of sophistication matched with on trend fashion, it also manages to reach that perfect level of femininity and sexiness. Not forgetting the to die for prints and strong influence of leather - something to dream of until pieces become available….
Stella McCartney - In It For Good
Stella continues to prove everyone else wrong with her continuous environmentally friendly collection. With the brands efforts to continue to help the environment Stella McCartney partnered with Fashion for Good Network who help eliminate fashion waste. Filled with very sporty summer looks her collection continued to show us biker shorts (or shall we say cycling suits) are here to stay as well as tie die. The nod to sports as well as night wear (we loved the lingerie-esque dresses) made for a light and airy collection defined by the often loose silhouettes, light weight fabrics and cool tones.
Louis Vuitton - Fashion Forward and Beyond
With Virgil stepping in as Creative Director for Louis Vuitton menswear, Nicolas Ghesquiere presented a very unique collection, with a nod to Virgil’s collection with sharp looking male looks that are all gender neutral - ‘the' trend this fashion month. Set in a see-through runway inside the Louve, the vibe was 80’s girl (or boy) meets outer space. With a combination of graphic tee dresses, ballon like space sleeves and hat’s that definitely gave off a Star Wars feel. You simply cannot forget those 80’s printed dresses and dramatic shoulders.
